So I was actually much more organised than I was in Amsterdam and managed to pack my bag before I went out last night! Get me!
I had to be up around 6ish this morning so I was actually very sensible also and just had a couple of beers and an early night - proud of myself!! ha ha
The train went direct from the station to Amsterdam airport so it was very straight forward, although at the very last minute, the platform changed but I managed to spot it and catch the train! I am getting quite good at this travelling lark!
My flight was at 10.20 and I arrived at the airport about 8ish so plenty of time for a beer! Its the law that you have to have a cheeky pint at the airport!
I was starving too so I had a cheese toastie - only thing on the menu without meat!
I used to be a terrible flier but I seem to be getting used to it now as there were no nerves at all this time! The flight is just over 2 hours and Estonia is one hour ahead of Amsterdam (2 ahead from UK in total) and the flight was great, I had a g&t (standard!) and even managed a sneaky nap! (Also didnt get anything nearly confiscated this time!)
As we came into land I could see the snow on the runway! I have been so excited to see snow!! I love it!
I found my way to the tram stop and got the number 4 tram to the old town, which is where my hostel is. The scenary wasnt very pretty on the journey, very communist looking buildings but I knew that the old town would be pretty.
I had travelled in my trainers and slipped a few times on the short walk to the hostel and the snow was coming down! It was cold too! My warm clothes are definitely going to be needed!
The hostel I am staying at is called Red Emperor and is run by a group of aussie lads. I checked and they were so friendly and helpful. They all have tattoos and beards, very hipster!
I got allocated a bunk in the 8 bed dorm and bagged a bottom one again which is a result!
It was around 3pm and already going dark, so I quickly got changed and headed out. I put my boots on instead of my trainers and got wrapped up in my big coat, hat, scarved and thermal gloves. I checked the temparature and it was minus 3!
The hostel is just a couple of minutes walk to the old town and wow! its so beautiful - completely like a magical fairytale land! Its even more pretty in the snow too! I bet its lovely in the summer but I am so glad I came in the winter and saw it all snowy!
I spent an hour wandering around and finding places I had marked to see and go to and generally getting my bearings. Its so cold though that its hard to wander around for too long! Plus its dark by 4pm. I found an Irish bar for a pint of the black stuff! Then just ended up sat at the bar for a couple of hours talking to locals, a couple of finnish guys and the bar man who was half scottish and half finnish - he had a crazy accent!
Its quite quiet here at the minute but it is a Tuesday and they are just taking the xmas markets down so I imagine it was busier when they were on.
I headed back to the hostel and bought some pasta and sauce from the supermarket just opposite which I made for my tea in the hostel kitchen. I had planned just to have a couple of drinks in the hostel bar......but that turned into many drinks and being the last to leave at 3am! ha ha!
Had a good night though, played giant jenga and chatted to a couple of guys from Argentina (one of them now lived and worked in Magaluf!!!), a guy from Armenia, a couple of locals who were celebrating one of their birthdays and a guy from Moscow. Can't remember any of there names but we did lots of shots and became best mates! ha ha
Excellent first night in Tallinn!!
