Well the big day has arrived - 2nd Jan - the day my little adventure begins! I have been planning the trip since September but time has flown.
Had a bit of a panic this morning as hadn't packed, and then I couldn't fit everything into my rucksack! For someone who is so organised (I have multiple spreadsheets for my trip!), I can be so last minute with things too!
But I managed to squeeze as much in as I could, the main thing I need is a few clothes and clean pants! (oh and money and passport obvs!)
It was a much more emotinal day than I had thought, saying goodbye to my cats and the house was all a bit too much and there were lots of tears. I must admit, I am terrified of the few months ahead, but I also know deep down that it is the right thing to do! It's going to be such an adventure and I know I will regret it if I don't just do it.
People keep telling me how brave they think I am! I am not sure if I am brave or stupid but we will see I suppose!
Michael and I went for lunch on the way to the aiport and randomly, I overheard a girl who was on the next table with her dad talking, and she was getting the same flight as me! How strange!
After more tears at the airport, I said bye and cried all the way through security! I was a snotty mess by the time I got to the bar! A pint of guinness was needed!
It was only then that I started to get nervous about the flight! I am not a great flyer, but with everything going on I hadn't had chance to think about it! Luckily its only a 50 mins flight!
As its going to be quite cold in a lot of places I am going to, I have a massive, warm coat with me but it was really hot on the plane so I decided to put it in the overhead locker along with my rucksack. There wasnt any room near me so I walked down the plane and found some space then sat back down. I got chatting to a guy sat next to me who was from Leeds but working in Amsterdam and we were just chatting about what I had planned. Then, all of a sudden, the air steward announced over the speaker 'This is the last chance for anyone claiming this coat, I have walked up and down and no one is claiming it, it will be removed from the plane soon' When I looked up, it was my coat!! Ha ha, that was a close call. Especially when I realised my passport was in the pocket! Doesnt bode well for 6 months of travelling!!
The flight went really quick - just time for a quick gin and tonic before we landed in Amsterdam! So exciting!!
