On our return from Turtle Island we decided to go out to Sepilok to visit the Orangutan Sanctuary. The trip did not start well - we were given conflicting information by about 5 different people about which bus to get and where they went from. We eventually found the mini-bus station only to find we had missed 'bus 14' and the next one wasn't for 3 hours. We splashed out on a taxi (which cost an expensive 35 ringitts or 5 quid for an hour journey) only to find that the Sanctuary closed between 12 and 2 (we arrived at 12). We cursed!
Making the best of the situation we went to see an educational film put on by the centre - after 20 minutes waiting in a dark theatre it turned out they had forgot ten to put it on. To waste some more time we went for food - which then took over an hour and a half to come...arriving at 5 minutes to opening time. We wolfed our meal down and rushed out to buy our tickets....and it started chucking it down with rain. We went off in the rain to see the orangutans and got soaked as we had forgotten our macs. The orangutans were amazing but then we had to face the saga of getting back to Sandakan. The elusive 'bus 14' never turned up and we had to walk 2 miles in very humid weather to the main road to catch a public bus.
Could we be jinxed?
