We booked an overnight trip to Pulau Selingaan - an island in a protected marine park shared by Malaysia and the Philipines which is dedicated to protecting turtles.
As we were the only people who had booked directly with the company that manages the island we had our own speedboat out to the island which made us feel like we were rich and extravagant rather than smelly old backpackers! We then had a couple of hours on a beautiful tropical beach completely on our own before the tour groups arrived...bliss! All was very relaxing apart from Kim managing to sink up to her thighs in quicksand on the beautiful tropical beach - with one flip flop being sucked irretrievably down into the depths.
After dinner we witnessed a turtle laying its eggs on the beach. As Kim guessed the number of eggs (almost) correctly the turtle will always now be known as Kim!!!! We also saw the eggs being transplanted into the hatchery and helped release 60 new turtle hatchlings into the sea - soooo cute!
Such a fantastic trip!
