Five minutes after we arrived at our nice guest house in Kuala Lumpur the heavens opened and a thunderstorm raged all afternoon. Stuck in the guest house we watched poor quality pirate DVDs until we could escape outside. By this time we desperately neded a beer and made a bee-line for 'The Green Man', an English pub (is that sad?) where we ended up chatting to the owner (from Coventry) and his Malaysian missus.
Our first day in KL we did a hop on hop off city tour and saw the Petronas Towers, the KL Eye (a poor mans london eye), lake gardens and the city centre and hopped off to go up the KL Tower from which there was a stunning view of the city. During the tour Kim pointed out a section of the city famous for traditional Malay food - just as she said that we passed a KFC - typical - they're everywhere! We also stopped off at a craft centre and artists village where Kim had a go at making batik (while Mark fell asleep while waiting for her to finish her masterpiece).
Day 2 we ventured out of the city in the pouring rain (again) to visit the Batu Caves. The outside of the caves is stunning with a massive golden statue guarding the entrance. We climbed 272 steep steps only to find the inside was not quite as stunning....oh well we need the exercise!
