We've been in Bangkok for two days now. We arrived on the evening of the 10th. The plane journey was yet again quite a luxury. Hats off to STA for our flights. We were sat next to a lovely old Japanese lady who was trying to feed us oranges and sweets. We had fun trying to fill out her visa card for her!
The minute we stepped off the plane it was boiling hot, which meant it was fun trying to lug our backpacks around. Got a taxi from the airport instead of attempting to get the bus which i think was a good plan because it was miles away! Our taxi driver turned the radio on and Take That came on and then every single song after that was English, it was very odd, but Thailand is alot more western than Japan is.
Got to our guesthouse (the Asha Guesthouse) and were amazed by how nice it was, it has a bar and a pool! Didn't do a lot that night except sit by the pool for a while.
Yesterday we thought we would go shopping to get some better clothes as ours weren't very appropriate for SE Asia. We ended up at Siam Square, had breakfast for about a pound! The first mall we went in was full of designer shops so the prices were far more expensive than we were expecting. Though I did buy some flip flops (I can't help myself!). We went into some more shops and a market, which was stupidly cheap but everywhere we went there were shop assistants stood over us, which we didn't like so we didn't get much actual shopping done.
After that we went to Victory Monument, which was crowded to say the least. We were sweltering hot by this point and dehydrated so we headed back to the hostel. On the way back we passed loads of food stalls selling things like squid on a stick. It was quite bizzare.
Today we spent the day doing all the organising we had to do. First we went to the Thai embassy to get re-entry stamps so we could go to Laos. Didn't take as long as I thought it would, though it took us ages to find it and we had some horrific passport photos taken of us! Then we booked our train tickets for the overnight train to Laos. A bargain at 7 pound for a 12 hour journey. After that we went to the cinema! Watched Tenacious D and the pick of Destiny for only 2 pound. We had to stand in the cinema when the national anthem came on, which was a bit weird. We also had to do that in the sky train station later on.
I also think that I started to tan today which is quite exciting!
