There is a tourist boat that runs up and down the river in Bangkok so we decided to check it out as it was only 100 baht for the day and you can get on and off as many times as you like. It also allowed us to go to the central post office and send loads of our clothes home, we packed waaaay too much stuff.
After doing that we had sweet and sour chicken at a cafe at one of the stop offs and went to Wat Pho, which is apparently the largest and oldest temple in Bangkok and home to the recling Buddha. This Buddha is seriously massive. It was tall and stretched all the way down the room and in my opinion it looked slightly pornographic in the way it was lying, but I think that was just me.
The grounds of Wat Pho are massive. There are pagodas and temples, Buddha Statues, a massage place and even a school. I imagine it would be quite bizzare to go to school in a tourist attraction.
We wanted to go to the Grand Palace, but were told by a tuk tuk driver that we were too late. He tried to take us to some other place but we decided he was trying to swindle us out of some money so we declined. We found out that it was about to shut anyway so we headed up to Khao San Road (the famous backpackers road) to see what all the fuss was about. We had been warned off staying there by some people in Japan so we were expecting the worst. However we totally fell in love with the place, we're definately going to stay there when we go back to Bangkok.
It took us a good hour and a half to get back to the hostel on the boat and then the Skytrain. we had showers and food and then got a tuk-tuk to the subway station to get the subway to the train station. The tuk-tuk ride was a scary experience! I had my backpack on my back so I was barely even sat on the seat and it was really bumpy. I was convinced I was going to fall off.
We made it to the train in one piece, bought some food for the journey and a strawberry sundae fom Dairy Queen (I have become addicted to them, they are like heaven in a cup).
The train and the bunks on it, were nowhere near as bad a I thought they would be. They were actually quite comfy, though being on the top bunk of a very bumpy train with only two straps to stop you falling out was a bit scary! The worst part of the journey was the lovely stainless steel toilet (read hole in the ground) which was fun to use on a moving train!
