.................Hervey Bay , another nice place. Just 5 hours bus journey from Rockhampton. This place was the nxt gateway to Fraser Island.Hervey was again a really nice place and quite a spread out with a 15km boadwalk along the sea front. Luckily the hostel we stayed at " The friendly hostel" Alowed you to us there bikes free of charge for the day. So after a very lazy xmas period we became a lil more active and went on long walks into the shopping areas and bike rides along the sea front. One afternoon we even had a game of bowls at the local bowls club. That was really quite relaxing. The locals there taught us how to play. Luckily we had a whole green to ourselfs as the bowls were going all over the palce at first until we figured out which side the weight had to be on...

After staying at Hervey for a few day we were picked up at 7.30am for our Fraser island trip. We had this big 4x4 that held 14 of us. The smallest guided tour we could get. the other tours had between 20-40 people per bus!! You could hire your own 4x4 , but as neither of us drive we took the tour.Fraser island turned out to be one of the most amazing places we have seen. The first day we were all taken to two fresh water lakes. The first was so clear and blue surrounded by white sand. The second was rather green and surrounded by huge sand dunes and rainforests.So pretty! we all had lunch together had drove up the 75 mile beach to our camping grounds for the night. We all had a cabin between two. As it was new yrs eve we all had our steak dinners and drunk. A few hrs into the night pretty much everyone had gone to bed apart from me and kie and a sweedish couple.We all saw the night through and headed to our rooms shortly after as we had to be up and ready by 7am the nxt day.Kieran had had about 3 litres of wine that night and wanted to say night to the couple again before going to sleep. I told him he had already done so and that he was knocking on the wrong peoples door anyway. But he didnt belive me. So after going to brush my teeth i returned to find kieran naked and stood in our cabin doorway holding a broom. He then went on to say he had knocked on what he thought was the Sweedish couples door to say goodnight for a laugh with the broom , but had knocked on the wrong door where the Koreans where sleeping and was met by there mother.Who couldnt speek much English at all and basicly tried to shoo kieran off the door step. Kieran then casually sweeped back to our cabin where i found him. The nxt morning everyone was up having breakfast and kie was the last one in the dinning room. Having to sit in the only chair nxt to the old woman.ha ha.

New years day our guide took us to some more amazing sites. Two fresh water creeks , Indian head a point where you could see the sea ,rain forests , sand dunes and creeks ect..And a shipwreck from 1938. We also went on some walks before having a lovely big lunch and heading back to the ferry for Hervey bay. Fraser island was very impressive and had lots of history. Our guide had worked on the island with one of the bigger companys for 11 years before changing to the smaller tours so he was like a talking book of infomation. As he didnt really like the old company he worked with , he told us all to use the Fraser island waver to his old collegues. This just happend to be the finger.ha ha So everytime we passed one of the other tour buses , he would check to see who the driver was and we would then all do our wave. Our guide went on to say that he was still friends with thother drivers and that they'll find it funny...Once we got back to Hervey bay we stayed one more night then got the bus to our next destination.
