Kevin and Joannie on tour
The drive the day before had been long so we decided to stay at home and read surrounded by snow capped mountains.
Joan went to see the owners to pay but the only person home was the mother of the family who was busy baking bread in an old range. In the kitchen was the family's pet sheep. She explained all about the fruit trees they grew and talked about the animals. There were chickens, turkeys, sheep, lots of dogs and cats. The dogs she explained had mainly been dumped by people from "Santiago" and some had been rescued from the river.
The main news on the TV was the heat in Santiago which has reached 35 degrees Celcius. It seems this is unusual. Here in the Lakes it was less harsh and we were glad to have cover where we could rest and watch the day go by. The dogs and cats would occasionally come scrounging of us and made themselves at home.
Dinner was empanaditas (cheese pasties) and chips.
