Kevin and Joannie on tour
Joan is still full of a cold and we didn't bring any Beechams or ibuprofen. We decided to have an easy day and drive up to the penguin reserve at Pulihuill, just over 100km and on the west of the island. Driving there was easy, when you weren't stuck behind a slow farm vehicle.
At Punihuill, you drive right on to the beach. There must have been 5 or 6 firms all offering similar 45 minute trips to see the penguins. The company that is meant to be the most ceo-friendly was full until very late in the day. So we bought a trip with another company and then waited an hour for the next departure at 3.30.
To get on the boat you are put on a trolley and wheeled out to the boat. There are a few rocky outcrops that stick out not far from the beach where you can see both Magellan and Humboldt penguins. There weren't that many as they swim out to sea all day and come back in the evening. But there aren't trips in the evening. Still it was good to see the ones we did, jumping in and out of the waves.
Back at home, we noticed Skorpios II was docked at Castro. This was the sister ship of the one we spent our honeymoon on. We worked out it was doing the same schedule as we had done fourteen years ago.
