Tuesday 8th September -Duomo
We got off the bus and headed for the Piazza del Duomo in the centre of the city of Catania.
We didn't continue on with the guide from the bus as we were all sick of her incessant chatter and although we had walkie talkies given out we just put them into our back packs and went looking for a coffee.
It was meant to rain and the shy looked somewhat threatening so we picked a coffee shop in the Piazza that had big umbrellas and ordered coffee and Danish. It was good.
We were not the only ones from our tour to do this either.
For the first day on the cruise the temperature is bearable and there is a nice breeze.
In the centre of the Piazza there is a black (lava) elephant with an Egyptian obelisk on its back, quite weird but this dates back to Roman times.
The building all around the Piazza were all designed by the same architect, Giovanni Vaccinni.
We went inside the Duomo and it was very different to others that we have seen. Still it was huge and the paintings on the walls were huge.
