We left Bangkok on saturday, took an overnight bus and then a catamaran over to the island of Koh Tao. We met a couple more people from our flight and decided we were keen to head away from the tourists so headed to the east side of the island to a very small bay called Hin Wong, we probably only saw 4 or 5 other tourists whilst there which was a big change to Bangkok. The scenery was amazing and reminded us of Lost, we stayed in a wooden hut on the side of a hill right next to the ocean. The views really were something else. Unfortunately it rained most of the day so we couldn't take the sea kayaks out so just explored the island and had a relaxing evening on the sea front. The night was interesting, we got woken up by a noise very similar to a goat, however we still haven't found out what the noise is but it appears to be quite common. Birds make a hell of a lot of noise over here and the lizards are massive we could hear them walking on the outside of the shack. Next morning we decided to head over to the west coast in hope that the weather would be a bit nicer and it was...we all got burnt! since being here on the west side we have been sea kayaking around the island again the views were absolutely stunning. We also had a very entertaining evening out with the people we met, which included sampling the local fish bowls and watching a pretty impressive fire poi show on the beach and of course ended up having a paddle around in the sea in the wee hours of the morninng (merryn lost her flip flops :( ).Our last day on Koh Tao, we mainly chilled out on the beach and in the evening we went to watch the local sport of Muay Thai (Boxing) wasn't nearly as gorey as we were hoping but someone did get knocked out. The winner of the tournement was a man called Steve...the only non thai to enter. This morning we took another rough journey by boat to our next destination Koh Phangnan. Here we have managed to get our best appartment yet, it even has a flushing toilet and we dont have to share a bed!!!!! Still very cheap and a damn good location which is all we ask for. Koh Phangnan is a lot busier than KOh Tao and the beach is a lot bigger but there arent any fish nets here so kerry is a bit worried (wimp!). Other than that all is well...will keep you updated!
