Chiang Mai.
We are staying in a prison cell!! Verrry cheap accommoadtion but not very nice! It will do though as we want to try and watch the budget.
Thursday 13th March,
First full day in Chiang Mai...we headed to the tribal museum. Decided we could try and navigate but ended up hot, sweaty and stressed so got a tuk tuk. The museum was actually very good and we are glad to have gone there before visiting any tribes. Most interesting was the Cannabis and Opium fields and learning about how they were used and how they are used today. Originally they were used pretty illegally but nowadays (after the Thai and US Governments intervened) other crops have been planted for the hilltribes to earn a living from, although we are pretty sure its not as above board as they try and make out.
We had lunch on the lake, was a pretty cool place with wooden rafters on the waterfront. Then we tried to head back to our cell....easier said than done!! Spent a long time wandering about and being refused lifts from the tuk tuks and taxi drivers ( a few people have since said they think it might have had something to do with trying to get back into the city during rush hour) Decided we needed a few beers by the time we got back!!
