Before I knew it I was on the airport to get Nick-for those who don't know him, he's practically my boy best mate...he was coming over to visit for just over 2 weeks and I had an action packed plan in store for us to make the most of the trip...
We started in Brisbane and had stayed at this great hostel Bunk, it had a nice pool and jacuzzi and one of the best bar/clubs for backpackers as part of the hostel itself. Had a funny night there with these other 2 lads we met and an interesting game of 'Arrogance'...
Next day we boarded the Greyhound coach...of course no time for Nick to recover from his jetlag! :) We headed to Noosa, pretty little beach town. Stayed at Dolphins Beachhouse, a very very chilled out hostel with apartment style rooms which were cool. We relaxed in the hammocks and played ping pong and then chilled down the beautiful beach. Had dinner at this funky little Organic Restaurant. The next day we headed to Rainbow Beach, the gateway to Fraser Island. Stayed at Dingos Hostel, pretty cool, had a LONG briefing for our Fraser Island 3 day 2 night Adventure Safari...it's the World's Largest Sand Island...and there are no roads. Basically 6 jeeps of about 9-10 backpackers go off exploring for a few days and camp on the beach. We had amazing weather and the island was stunning. Lake McKenzie is just out of this world. We had a cool group, one idiot called Corey could have ruined it for us all but we all just learnt to ignore him by the end. I hadn't camped for years but actually really enjoyed it. At night all the jeeps set up camp and cook dinner and played drinking games under the stars...I've never seen anything like, the sky was incredible, saw lots of shooting stars too. Saw sharks, rays and turtles in the crystal clear waters. Nick and I nearly died when we stupidly went on a huge walk to the Champagne Pools without any footwear, not realising that the sand would be so hot it practically burnt off the outer layer of skin on our feet. That was an experience that won't soon be forgotten...
We went hang gliding in Byron Bay, was awesome. I love the fact I wasn't even a bit scared asmy instructor and I just had to run off towards the edge of the cliff...and hope the wind is strong enough to carry me away...was so much fun and we had a beautiful day for it. I loved the free feeling of soaring through the skies...definitely the closest feeling to flying I am going to get. Byron was so much fun, stayed at the amazing Nomads Hostel, a bit of luxury for a backpackers. Hung out with Lexi, who we met in Fraser, that was cool. She also had a car so we had a roadtrip one day which was fun. On Australia Day we went to this gorgeous beach near Byron Lighthouse and then had a great BBQ at her family holiday home before we hit the town for a mad night out.
Nick and I went jet skiing in the Gold Coast, so much fun. We loved it. Also had a speedboat ride down the river. Beautiful weather the whole time. Amy came and picked us up in Surfers, so good to be reunited once again. She kindly had sorted for us to stay at her friends house which was wicked so a bit of comfort for Nicks last days. We had a fun afternoon at Nancys amazing house near Brisbane and had a BBQ. She had an amazing pool there so me and Amy got up to our old tricks and started jumping off the walls into the pool and attempting to do back flips into the water and so on...
As though we hadn't packed enough in already, for Nick's last couple of days we went to Warner Bros. Movie World Theme Park and Wet N Wild, so much fun! We squeezed a nught out in Surfers and spent most of the night laughing at the freaks around us. We always have something to say...then I tried to sly as many of the free drink to Nick as I could from 'The Bedroom' which was ladies night and didn't cost girls a thing! On Nicks last night we went for a nice meal at Hard Rock Cafe in Surfers and walked down the beach night market...
What a whirlwind visit, it was awesome! Definitely made the most of our time...it was time for Nick to fly home...and me to spend a last weekend in Brisbane with Tim and I managed to catch up with an old school friend Caz which was great...now on to Perth and my Western Australia adventure..............
