Today is Matthews last day staying with us in Darwin, so we headed off to explore Litchfield Park. Our first planned stop was the Lost City, so named because the unique rock formations stacked on top of each other look like the ruins of an ancient city. The 4wd track was very rough and corrugated but it was worth the drive in. Years ago the track used to go passed the Lost City and ended up at another waterfall and swimming hole but you are no longer allowed to go there due to a colony of rare Bats in a cave at the swimming hole, so now the track ends at the Lost City. The boys really enjoyed exploring the various rock cavities and climbing some of the rock towers, nature is so amazing!
The day was starting to heat up so our next stop was the Buley Rock Pools. Wow, what a spectacular place to cool off. There are several beautiful rock pools to choose from to swim in, each with there own little waterfall tumbling in. We really enjoyed cooling off here, it has been one of the best places that we have had the privilege to swim in on our trip so far!
After our swim we moved another 2km further to have lunch at a picnic area positioned right on a flowing fresh water creek, an absolutely beautiful spot. We boiled up some hotdogs for lunch creekside before a 500m walk to Florence Falls. There were lots of people at Florence Falls, we had a great time swimming to the waterfalls and lazing around in the beautiful cool waters. After our beautiful swim at Florence Falls we took a picturesque 1km walk crossing over the flowing fresh water creek several times on our way back to the picnic area. What an awesome relaxing day! It's so amazing that amidst the dry rocky landscape there are spectacular waterfalls and swimming holes waiting to be enjoyed!
