So today we didn't have any classes, which was nice. We had to meet at the meeting point at 10:15, so we could walk over to the old city where we got a tour from a man who works for the city, I think?? He brought us to the old city and I knew immediately I was going to fall in love. Everything is stone, the churchs are quite possibly the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen, and the aljibes (the wells under the churches and in musems) are the coolest aspects of the city! We looked at a lot of churchs, some were under construction, but some were open. Most of the buildings now house offices, but regardless, are still gorgeous.
We entered one building where it looked like there were members of the KKK. BUT they informed us that these figures were catholic costumes. In all reality, the KKK based their attire off of these catholic figures. I was still scared nonetheless. We did see a few aljibes and I was amazed by these. Some of the passages were a little narrow, but for the most part, the aljibes made up for the claustrophobia. My picture for this blog is an example of an aljibe.
Later tonight, we went to the cross to meet up with the rest of the group so that we could buy our train tickets to Lisbon. After finding great deals at the train station, we went to go shoe shopping, although I didn't have any luck. We hit up Mi-Bo-Ta, which is a wonderful boot store here in Cáceres. Once we finished shopping, we went to el gran café, where Alice and I bought 12 churos and a cup of melted chocolate for 5 euros. IT WAS SO YUMMY. I attempted to try Alice's coffee, but got it up to my nose, smelled it, and put it down immediately. One of these days it'll happen...maybe...
The more I see of Cáceres, the more I fall in love with the city. Although I got a little people-sick today, I'm still enjoying my time here and couldn't imagine not having the opportunity to live here for 3.5 months :)
