It was the first day of classes!! :) Alice and I got to the bus stop early and got on the right bus (although for a while I was convinced it was the wrong one). Upon arriving at the school, we found the classroom and waited outside until the class started at 10.
The first professor was legit. Marisa teaches phonetics and I was very fearful of the class because I don't really understand the point of phonetics. She made it seem like it would be a boring class but that she was going to try her hardest to make sure it would be fun. She speaks very clearly and with an incredibly strong lisp, although I'm getting used to it, being that all people from Cáceres have a lisp.
The second professor wasn't so great. José speaks so quietly, doesn't open his mouth to speak, and has a strong, strong accent. He teaches Spain Today and it seems like it will be a fun class. Fortunately, Ramón co-teaches this class and I have higher hopes for understanding his teachings.
The third professor was wonderful. Enrique is a 62 year old man with a lot of personality. He teaches grammer and enjoys his job a whole lot. He speaks clearly too, although sometimes he gets excited and speaks a little too quickly to understand. He realizes it a lot of the time and then rewinds and slows down.
After our third class, Alice wanted orange juice so we went down to the cafeteria and they freshly squeezed a glass for her. They have a machine that does it at most cafés and apparently at the school too. Once she finished the glass, we went to the bus stop. On our way there, Enrique saw us and yelled out my name from his car. (I had to talk to him after class because he volunteered to be the proctor for my online class) He asked us if we wanted a ride home and we trusted him so we hopped in the car and got to avoid the crowed bus. He dropped us off at the horse statue. We had no clue where we were for a moment, so we wandered around aimlessly until we realized that we weren't far from the post office.
We took a siesta and had lunch. At 5:00 pm, our group met at the cross and went to climb one of the mountains. It was quite possibly the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. It was a long hike, and a very hot one at that, but the view from the top was absolutely breath-taking. We plan to visit it many more times while we are in Cáceres and want to picnic up there with a bottle of wine. We were up there while the sun set and the walk down was a little more chilly than we had hoped. Although it took about an hour to get to the top and an hour down, it was well worth it.
After returning to the normal elevation, Alix, Jenny, Alice and I went to the bakery and grabbed a quick treat. It was a pastery with bananas and was delicious.
Tomorrow we don't have classes but are touring the old city. So until then...
