A gorgeous day and a gorgeous city. We went to el correo at 9 am and boared the bus for Toledo, which was a 2.5/3 hour bus ride. After stopping in the city that smells like pigs for a quick break, we continued our bumpy ride to Toledo. Upon arriving in the city, the bus driver refused to slow down at the speed bumps and the sleeping girl next to smacked her head on the window. We'll just say she wasn't very happy. After arriving at the tourist information center, we were given a few must-sees and then we're left to fend for ourselves.
We entered the old city through a gorgeous stone archway and continued to walk up a hill with narrow streets and old, crumbling buildings. After reaching the top, we found a gorgeous outlook over part of the old city. The weather we perfect for a day full of walking. We entered the main plaza of the city to find a "communist riot" going on. Although we aren't sure what was going on, Alice, Taylor Anne, Hannah, and I decided to continue on and get out of the massive mob of angry people. The streets wind around and about the whole city, and unlike the US, don't have noticeable street signs. We found stores full of souvenirs and bought some postcards and gifts for people back in the US.
The first place we stopped was the main Cathedral and it was breathtaking. Although we couldn't go very far in, the intricate details were visible from far away. We really weren't supposed to be taking pictures, but no one was there to tell us we couldn't, so we continued to do so.
Afterwards, we went to a little café and bought croissant and the other girls got a coffee. It was a nice break from the walking and gave us some time to look at a map.
We continued on our journey and saw multiple monuments and saw many more churches. Unfortunately, we were walking during siesta and a lot of things were closed. We got very lost on our way to one of the churches and had to ask for help. Fortunately the lady we asked spoke English, but unfortunately, she had no idea what she was talking about.
We walked back to the main plaza and sat and talked for an hour (the riot was over) before loading the bus to come home. We got home around 9pm and finished some homework and went to bed.
It's definitely a must-see city and I hope I'm able to return one day in the future :)
