Spanish Adventures
So on Friday night I'm sitting in my room just hanging out and I hear some loud music outside. People sometimes drive down our street blasting music so at first I figured that was what it was. But then I noticed that the music was some old school Spanish music which is definitely not the blasting type of music and it wasn't stopping. So I open my blinds and see a bunch of people outside. Interested by this development I ran to my roommates room to fill her in on what was happening (she was already outside on her balcony so I wasn't much help at that point).
Turns out someone had ordered a Mariachi band for a girl that lives on the floor below us and they stood out in the street serenading her (and the rest of our building) for quite some time. My roommate and I ran to get our host mom and all three of us stood out there freezing and watched them for a while. They were really good and the whole experience was kind of just surreal to me.
On an unrelated topic the next morning I dragged my butt out of bed to go and do Zumba at the gym (gotta use that membership). So my friend and I get there and start to notice there are so pretty hardcore Zumba-ers - you know the people who have the shirts with "ZUMBA" written across them that come with matching pants with tons of tassels? Yeah those people. So at this point I'm starting to doubt my Zumba abilities.
So anyways we go in and the instructor gets up there and all of the sudden some hardcore latin music starts playing. To say my friend and I looked like gringoes is an understatement. The class consisted of a whole lot of butt shaking and even the seventy year old woman next to me was showing me up. I guess you could say that real Zumba-ers were the least of our worries. But overall it was fun.
Anyway that's been my exciting weekend and I just booked my flights to go to Geneva, Switzerland next weekend so I'm really excited about that!
**I have a video of the band but it's not uploading (wifi is not the best here) so I'll try again tomorrow

Kitat Are not mariachis, it is a university tuna The Tuna is one of the oldest students' association in all spanish universities. Its origin is dated between Xth and XIIIth centuries, when the former spanish universities were founded. The Tuna has helped to keep alive the use of some traditional spanish instruments like the bandurria or the laud, which are always accompanied with the spanish classical guitar and, nowadays, Tunas continue playing the traditional Spanish and South American folk music to avoid the forgetting of all this songs.
