Spanish Adventures
Sorry I haven't been doing a great job keeping this updated! Promise I'll try to do better haha. So last weekend I travelled with my class to Seville, a town about 3 hours west of Granada. Everyone talks about how extremely beautiful this city is, but to me it was a little to much city. Which is not to say I didn't like it, but I'm very happy I'm studying here in Granada and not there.
One of the places we visited while we were there was a museum on the Spanish Inquisition which was really interesting. They had the foundations of a town within this building showing what was where with pictures of what it may have looked like. The Spanish Inquisition was basically a 200 year attempt to rid Spain of anyone who wasn't a devout Catholic, meaning people of other religions and people who may happen to say something kind of anti-religous when the wrong person is listening. It was interesting to see especially in conjunction with what we're learning in class.
We also visited the Alcazar which is a palace that the Muslims build when they occupied the area, and then the Catholic monarchs took over. It's interesting to see the clashing of very different cultures in one place. As cool as the Alhambra was this place was even better. The gardens were absolutely amazing - I could have stayed there all day. There were tons of fountains and little areas with different types of plants and trees. Oh and apparently some of Game of Thrones was shot there so that's pretty cool too.
Of course we also saw the Cathedral. I have to say as cool as churches are there's only so many you can look at. At least for me personally. One interesting fact is that it's the largest church (square footage wise) in the world. It takes up about an entire block I think. Also you can go all the way to the top which was quite a hike but definitely a cool view.
Oh and how could I forget - one night we went to this little Itallian restaurant and I got a pizza with mushrooms and ham and let me tell you, it was quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had in my life. Definitely one of the high points of the trip :)
So that's my trip to Seville in a nutshell. The food was good (as always) and I had a good time!
