Spanish Adventures
So today was my first day of class! (Well my first day of intensivo which is a grammar class that we take before actual classes start). I was all ready to have a not so great time sitting for four (consecutive) hours taking notes on all the complicated tenses of Spanish. It was nothing like I expected.
First the classes were really small - I think there are 12 in mine. Second the Professors are really really cool. We have one professor for the first half and another for the second and they were both great. They both went through roll and asked us where we were from and what we were studying and stuff like that.
Then we did a bunch of ice breaker games where we mostly just talked to the people around us. The one thing we did was imagine we were in a forest and we had to describe the forest. Then we had to describe the path we were on. Then we come upon a wall and we have to describe the wall. This went on for a couple more things all of which we described in our notebooks. After we were done discussing our "vacation" with a partner, he told us that each part of the story and how we described it is representative of different parts of our life.
For example, at one point we found a key. I described my key as old and made of intricate gold. Apparently that means the friends I have now will be my friends for life, where as a modern key would mean your friends may not stick around. I just thought the whole exercise was really cool.
I know it'll probably get more difficult as we go on and probably not as exciting, but I was presently surprised at how fast four hours flew by. Also I'm going to try a new route tomorrow because the one I took today took me about twenty minutes (I got put in the far building. Of course) so hopefully that helps. We'll see how tomorrow goes!
