I woke up early to hit the road south. I was heading the invercargill, the most southern point of New Zealand. Rather than just going straight down I decided to take the scenic route and head east via the Catlins National Park. This was a stunning but very long drive to do by myself and probably too far to do in one day. I didn't realise the distance by looking at the map. Or rather it might not be the distance but more that the roads are so small and windy that it takes a lot longer to travel a long distance. And of course I kept having to stop to take pictures as the views are constantly amazing. I was hoping to see the famous penguins / Dolphins on the south coast but I wasn't lucky enough to see them. I later found out you have to go at evening / night time because during the day they're swimming in the sea.. Oops! I should have researched that one a bit more. So by about 5pm I arrived at invercargill. There wasn't much here at all really, it was a weird ghost town! Where were all the people?! Plenty of shops / restaurants but nobody in them! It was great, I got served my food straight away (I couldn't be bothered to cook after my long drive!). The hostel I stayed in was a big house conversion, it was very homely and nice. I shared a room with 3 chinese(?!) ladies who I tried to talk to but the only thing they could say was 'we speak no English.' So instead I went and sat in the lounge and got talking to a Canadian physio! Us physios are everywhere! She was lovely and before I knew it, it was bedtime... Once you start talking muscles and bones the time just flies ;-) no it wasn't that boring honest! She told me I should go and work a ski season in Canada next year... Tempting, very tempting!
