Another early morning meant it was time to hit the road again. My drive wasn't so long today which was good. Well, it was 4 hours ha. But that's pretty good really. Again it was broken up by lots of 'wowwww, I need to take a photo' especially the closer I got to Milford sound. Unfortunately it is renowned but rain, rain and more rain here. So guess what, it was raining when I arrived. I was staying in the Milford lodge overnight so I didn't have to do 2 lots of 4 hour drives in one day. This appeared to be a rich persons place... Obviously, it's got the word 'lodge' in the title. I had forgotten what it was like to stay in accommodation that felt like a hotel rather than hostel. I was still sharing a room but the whole place was still really nice. Because of the rain, I just chilled in the big lounge and ate a piece of carrot cake yum! At 6 dollars it was a complete rip off... But so worth it :-) the next day I was up early again for my Milford sound boat tour. The tour was nice however a little spoilt by the extremely heavy rain. I imagine on a nice day the views would have been spectacular.apparently they get 7m of rainfall a year on average so you have to be very lucky to go when it's not raining. I'm glad I went though. On my way out of the car park saw a girl absolutely drenched with all her backpacks on trying to hitchhike a lift. My good nature got the better of me so I gave her a lift to queenstown (5 hours away). She was a really nice American girl. She was only 18 and hitchhiking alone... Something I wouldn't do at 24! I definitely wouldn't pick up any other hitchikers to reassure you! It was just she was so wet and I felt so bad for her. And she obviously wasn't a weirdo! We had a nice chat for the 5 hour drive and she even paid me petrol money so I got something out of it ha.
