We took the bus to Airlie Beach which is where we met the boat for our sailing trip around The Whitsunday Islands. We made our way to Abel Point Marina where we boarded our sailing boat Prima. On board there were 6 other passengers (all of which were German) and the Skipper Steve and our host Camille. We sailed to Hook Island where we anchored for the night. After eating a fab dinner cooked by Camille we spend the evening playing cards & poker.
We woke up the following morning to the sound of the engine, it was another cloudy day but we were lucky enough to go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef at the bay of Border Island. It took a while for me to get used to breathing with a snorkel but when I had finished panicking and just looked below me it was so amazing - one of the prettiest things I have ever seen before in my life, so much coral and so many fish in all colours, shapes and sizes. It was such an amazing experience if not a little scary to start with. That afternoon we again got off the boat and went to Whitsunday Island to Whitehaven beach which was again gorgeous. The view from the lookout was amazing & the sand was so pretty as it was beautifully patterned due to the tide.
We spent the following morning travelling back to Airlie Beach and as the wind was up we were able to use the sails which meant lots of tilting on the boat! We were on top deck holding on for our dear lives. Arber got a chance to try his hand at sailing and put the sails out and he was also able to drive the boat. It was an interesting ride to say the least!
We arrived back in Airlie that afternoon and just went to the shops and had a nice shower. That night we met back up with everyone we had met previously from Fraser Island and had a wicked night out at Moroco's. Loads of fun.
Arber:
On the first day there me and Katie managed to get ourselves completly soaked as we thought it was a good idea to sit at the front whilst sailing in choppy water..We then had to sit there wet and cold because the tilt was so severe that i couldnt let katie try to move to the back of the boat.. im not a great swimmer and having to fish her out of the sea did not appeal.
After that it was plain sailing (ok thats pretty cheesy) it was loads of fun and the snorkelling was out of this world!! Our skipper knew the reef like the back of his hand so we got to see all the best places!!
Sailing was tough work and steering was worse - i threw that boat around pretty hard once i was behind the wheel!!
All in all i loved it the weather wasnt great but it didnt matter as we still had a fab time on a little boat with germans!!
