A lazy weekend here in Caceres was definitely needed, and with the weather at its best so far, Ginny and I spent most of our afternoons enjoying the sunshine outside!
We all decided that since this weekend was a free weekend before traveling the next two that we would take it easy at home. Ginny and I got caught up on some homework, our blogs, other chores and of course our sleep. We have been getting pretty worn down with traveling on the weekends so we definitely enjoyed some time off.
Friday we got a few things done like buying our bus tickets for Lisbon as well as making a stop at the post office (correos) and errands around town. We grabbed the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona at Carre Four and stayed in friday night to watch that. It was nice to kick back and watch a movie in English. We never watch tv here and havent seen a movie yet so seeing some familiar faces in a movie was refreshing.
Saturday morning we slept in and spent the remainder of the morning laying outside and enjoying the sunshine. We worked on a little homework and relaxed for most of the afternoon. That night, we headed into town to check out some of the film festival that was going on in town. It was an event similar to the Can Film Festival in the US. Lots of independant films and an awards show to boot. They also had the tapas fair going on at this time so we walked around the plaza mayor before checking out the red carpet before the awards show. We didnt recognize the majority of the actors, but from the reactions of the people, they must have been somewhat famous. Our brief moment of fame was when we saw one of our favorite actors from Acusados. It was cool to see all of the people roll in with their black cars and walk down the red carpet into the Gran Teatro.
Sunday morning Ginny and I checked out a new church that is by our house. It is an e-free church that is just getting started. There is a missionary couple there from Ames, so it was cool to meet them and see what the church was all about. It was a nice service but ended up running over 2 hours, which is a little long for me, but it was still neat to check it out. Sunday afternoon I finished up some homework, went for a run, and laid outside while it was still hot out. We got churros that night with our mom and sister and then came back home to finish up the rest of the homework I had.
Although it was a pretty lazy weekend, I definitely enjoyed some time to myself! Danielle comes this weekend so we are in the process of planning our trip to Palma Mallorca. I have a lot of school stuff this week and our first test in my literature class so I am glad that I am fully rested after a nice weekend at home!
