Kate's Chronicles
Well since the wedding its been business as usual. No other celebrations for now just living and working in Baise.I suddenly realised that I'm starting to become a local and finding my regular places to shop etc..just what every girl needs!!!
I've found a hairdresser -cut, colour and blowdry - $12 approx.
Full hand treatment and Manicure - $5
1 hour chinese massage - $5
shoes - $5-20. Noticed new winter leather boots today for $20-$30
Dresses - simple day-$5 upwards depending on what you want - high end about $30.
local beer - 50 cents a bottle
local wine - $1 a bottle
Restaurant meal with drink - $5-6 (depends on how many drinks)
meal at school cafeteria - 30-50 cents (depends what you choose)
local supermarket - all can say is dirt cheap!!
Did get reminded I'm not a local when I had to front up to the Immigration office this week to renew my Visa!?! - I am sure the Chinese government has more photos of me than anyone else. Still can't get my head around all the visa/resident permit/ foreign experts certificate business - thank heavens I have someone from school who does it all with me.
Been out for dinner a few nights this week with some of the teachers- early nights by Aus standards but they have to be on duty at 0600 before waking the students at 0615 for morning exercise. I haven't managed to drag myself along yet but can here it all from my apartment.
Oh and I am now a TV star!!! Had one of my classes filmed this week and was interviewed about the differences between Aus and Chinese students....its OK folks I can give you autographs when I return!!!!
This weekend I've had a quiet time and spent some time in Senlin Square which is like the peoples park in the city. Its a lovely spot with the quirky seating and sculptures, lots of greenery and you can sit and watch the world go by. I've added a few photos to give you the idea. Very restful.....
Well that all for now, talk again soon.....
