Kate's Chronicles
After yesterdays epic tourist trail I'm now fully aware that Baise not only has beautiful scenery, but also profound revolutionary history. As the place of Deng Xiaoping's Baise Rebellion and Youjiang Revolutionary Base it has a strong link to China's past history. In recognition of that it is one of the 12 red tourism (revolutionary tourism) spots in China and won the 2007 Chinese Tourism award.
AHHHHHHHH but there was more to see. Buildings have been transformed as part of modernisation of the city but maintain their historical significance. Many are in use for government business....not exactly sure what.
Then its off to Jiefang Lu , a cobblestoned street where the home of the Exhibition Hall of Revolutionary Relics is sandwiched between modern buildings. While the exhibition itself didn't really interest me after viewing all the exhibits at the museum the architecture of the building did. Particularly the golden carvings in the roof and on the plaques outside.
By now I'm overloaded with revolutionary history so we take a walk around the city centre where the girls point out some interesting statues that would be completely missed if you didn't know where to look. We also get to admire the decoration in the street that commemorate National Day.
After 2 full days of solid walking/hiking up and down mountains my body is telling me to give it a rest
