Roma! We arrived into Rome at about 6pm on Wednesday, we're staying with Pascale and Alessio (a couple Malaika knows) in the centre of Rome in their apartment. We made our way to their apartment, and then had the most amazing Italian meal. Lasagne, different breads and greens and tiramisu to finish it off- yum!
Thursday we explored the surrounding area in the morning- the pantheon, the Trevi fountain and the little streets all around. Then off to the doctors so I can get rid of this nasty chest infection! More wandering afterwards before heading back to the apartment for another delicious meal! That evening we explored Rome at night, before having a relatively early night.
Friday we headed for the Vatican! We spent the morning walking there and exploring St Peters Cathedral. We managed to get ourselves lost on our way home. We had dinner out that night, at a local restaurant pascale recommended- I love Italian food! We then went onto a square with lots of bars and good nightlife. We met another Australian and an Italian who we had a couple of drinks with before heading home.
Saturday we had the house to ourselves so had a very lazy day. We ate amazing italian leftovers. We saw the pantheon and Trevi fountain at night, walked the Spanish steps and sat for a while looking over the city. We used Pascale's homemade pesto to make a pasta with- delicious! That evening the museums were open late so we had a look through the Museo Napoleonico after getting the best gelato!
Sunday we were up at a reasonable hour and headed out after I skyped mum, Tom & em. We went to a recommended bakery for breakfast and indulged in the most delicious pastries! Afterwards we visited the roman forum- the ruins- and then onto the colosseum. Last time I was in Rome I didn't get to go inside so we went through it, amazing place! Back to the apartment for lunch and then for a quick browse through the shopping streets. Pascale and Alessio arrived home in time for dinner with us- Italian pizza, greens and tiramisu for dessert again!
We woke early on Monday and headed for the airport.
