Happiness Is The Road
I didn't sleep well as I wanted to make sure that I was awake at dawn. I had decided that I didn't want to be here any more. Please understand that it wasn't the work that bothered me, I enjoyed the work. The problem was the awful atmosphere. I just wasn't happy and this trip is entitled 'Happiness Is The Road', it's all about being happy. There's no point in putting up with something that you're not happy with, ever. I couldn't stand the thought of spending Christmas with this lot and so something had to be done. I had decided the night before that I was going. This was like I imagine being in the 'Big Brother' house must be like, stuck with awful people that irritate and annoy you. I had to evict myself. So at 5.45am when it was light I got up, grabbed my stuff and as quietly as I could I left the house, threw my stuff in the camper and drove off. After the darkness of my mood for the last couple of days I felt a great relief as I left. All the negative energy left me and I felt happy and elated and free again. It felt like a massive weight had lifted from me. I felt absolutely great. Never put up with parasites ever, always get out! I drove past the visitors centre and stopped there briefly to put a note under the door. Maybe I should have told them face to face but I didn't want to face loads of questions and for everyone to feel awkward and for them to try and change my mind. It was better this way. So off I went extremely tired but happy again. I needed to get some food now as my fridge was completely empty. The nearest supermarket was in Kingscote, about 100 kilometres away. I drove there but I went very slowly. It was dawn and there were loads of wallabies and kangaroos near the road. I didn't want to hit one, that would have been just awful, so I ambled along slowly. I only saw about 3 cars on the nearly two hour journey into Kingscote. When I got there the supermarket wasn't open so I pulled up on the foreshore and rang Jay to tell her that my escape had gone perfectly to plan. She was relieved and pleased that I was happy and back to my normal self again. It was like having an interview with Davina after leaving the 'Big Brother' house. I went to the supermarket after and stocked up and then drove all the way back to the other end of the island. I wanted to stay at a bush caravan park which was about half a kilometre from where the wildlife sanctuary was. The drive back was faster and only took about an hour as all the kangaroos and wallabies had now gone to sleep. Luckily the caravan park had space and I booked in for 5 nights over Christmas. This was a really lovely place. It was very spacious and surrounded by bush. You could tell from the poo on the ground that there would be kangaroos roaming about. They had a koala walk and a bush walk from the camp. I just chilled for most of the day and recovered from my ordeal! Whilst I was relaxing I was visited by the most funny and friendly ducks I have ever had the pleasure to meet. There were three of them, definitely guys, and they came up to me quacking. They sat with me for over half an hour before they waddled off. Later on I went on the bush walk and saw wallabies and kangaroos and geese and I even spotted an echidna in the undergrowth. I went on their koala walk and spotted a couple of the cuddly things. I got talking to a lovely Indian couple who were from Adelaide. It was great to talk to some nice people again. It was so good to go to sleep in my cosy camper tonight. It was wonderful. I was very contented and slept like a log.
