Happiness Is The Road
We awoke to hot and sunny weather and all was peaceful. Thankfully there was not a single christmas song to be heard! Under door number 12 of our advent calendar was a trumpet. After brekky we got away from this place. We drove to Richmond where we did some food shopping and then we headed back to Smiths Farm Holiday Park in Linkwater. This is where we had stayed when we had first arrived on the South Island around four weeks ago. We had really enjoyed staying here as it had been lovely and peaceful, it was in a beautiful spot and the animals were gorgeous. We were looking forward to seeing the animals again. The road between Richmond and Linkwater was very winding in places and we witnessed the worst driving that we have encountered since we made the mistake of going to Coromandel Town. Everyone was in some sort of major hurry and insisted upon tailgating us even though we were doing the speed limit. One insane guy in a 4X4 overtook us on double lines with a blind corner approaching and only just got in before the bend. If another arrogant and aggressive idiot like him had been speeding the other way it would have been carnage. The Kiwis are seriously deranged mad idiots when it comes to driving. They are horrible people who need to have therapy, address their problems and chill out a bit. They also all need to retake their driving tests as none of them can drive properly. They are all so fraught with negative energy it's seriously unbelievable. We arrived in Linkwater mid afternoon and Barbara the lady owner recognised us when we checked in. We complemented her on how nice her site is and booked in for three nights. We talked to Barbara about the animals. We found out that Billy the goat is actually called Terry and that the sheep are called Max, Sam, Gemma and Casper. We came away armed with bags of food for the animals and with a couple of freshly baked muffins for us. Once again we didn't like to tell her that we couldn't eat them. We chose a nice site hidden behind a hedge and then went to find the animals. We went to see Molly the pig first and were really happy to find that there were a couple of tiny lambs in the field next to her. They were bleating away at us and they were ever so cute. They poked their heads through the fence in order to get a cuddle. Near to the lambs there were a rabbit and a couple of guinea pigs as well. We then went to find Molly but there was no sign of her in her pen. As we approached though we could hear some very loud snoring. When we peeped over the fence and into her house we got a glimpse of her flat out and asleep. She seemed to have a smile on her very large but beautiful face. We didn't want to awaken her and left her snoring away, seemingly as happy as a pig in ****! Next up we went to find Billy or Terry as we now know him but he wan't there. We saw the sheep though who were now in his field. They were very happy to see us. We went over the stile and into the field and all four of them came running towards us and they surrounded us. They ate some of the food from our hands and we stroked them. Their wool is ever so soft and it has a gorgeous woolly smell. Jay had the food bag and they followed her all over the place and even butted her bum to try and get more! She was like Little Bo Peep!! Once out of the sheep field we went to find Terry (Billy) who was tied up at the far end of the camp site. He had a big mischievous grin on his face and he was phenomenally desperate to get at Jay who had the food bag. He kept on butting her and being very naughty. He was hyper frantic and ever so funny. After this we settled down in the sun for the rest of the day. Last time we were here we don't recall being bitten but today the sandflies were ferocious and there were loads of them. We tried to relax but with the sandflies and some annoying people who turned up later on this wasn't easy. A hard looking woman in a camper van that parked up behind us kept walking within inches of our camper van invading our space. These people have no camping etiquette! We were also treated to a sliding door hokey cokey all evening as she kept going back and forth. As is commonplace in New Zealand, lovely places are ruined by horrible people.
