Happiness Is The Road
We had a lovely peaceful night as we'd had the camp site almost to ourselves. As soon as we opened the door though the ravenous sandflies were back with some vengeance! We were going to stop here another night but the sandflies put us off. The sandflies are a massive nuisance here but they're not as aggressive as the nasty drivers! Under door number 11 of our advent calendar we found a cat with a christmas hat. After brekky we hit the road heading north with the usual irritants up our ****. We headed across to Motueka on the coast. This was a very commercial place but had some nice looking shops and we wanted to have a look at the Crystal shop. This was a lovely shop and was full of beautiful crystals and gem stones. We need as much positive energy as we can get in this country and we bought garnet, rhodonite, fire agate and chrysocolla stones. The stones are now helping us to keep us calm, keep us emotionally balanced, give us inner strength and also to aid astral travel! We need all of these to help get us through the rest of our New Zealand travels. From Motueaka we drove a few more kilometres up the coast to Kaiteriteri where we had hoped to stay the night. We'd read good reviews of the beachside camp site. We didn't like Kaiteriteri. Although it was in a picturesque little bay and the beach was lovely golden sand it was too commercialised . The beach was full of annoying young arrogant backpackers who think that they're gorgeous but simply aren't and the camp site looked liked a sink estate. It was a sprawling tatty place full of grotesque men without their tops on and women in bikinis who seriously should have known better! We decided to go back to Motueaka but it wasn't much better here. We went to the Fernwood Holiday Park based on the good reviews but it was awful. This place was a sink estate as well but it was not as bad as the one in Kaiteriteri. At least everyone had their tops on here. We chose the best site we could from a bad bunch and tried to relax for the rest of the day. This wash't easy as it appeared that the cast of Psychoville was staying here and someone with absolutely zero music taste somehow thought that it would be a good idea to play Wham's Last Christmas at ear crushing decibels! This song was just about bearable back in 1984 but nearly 30 years later it grates!
