Happiness Is The Road
We awoke to the soothing sound of the waves lapping the shore and opened the curtains onto our wonderful view of the beach and the ocean. We didn't have showers and luckily managed to pee without seeing anything that was going to put us off our breakfast! We drove up and away from Matauri Bay and stopped at a parking area at the top to look back down on this beautiful bay. There were lots of happy cows nearby munching away in fields that were so green and lovely they almost seemed too good to be true. The road from here hugged the coastline and we next stopped at a pretty little bay with a beach where we had a short mooch and watched the seagulls fighting over bits of dead fish that had been washed ashore. There was plenty of fish to go around, more than enough for everyone, but there was a nasty one that kept getting narky and chasing the others away. That seems to be life. No matter where you are or what you do there's always a nasty one that ruins it for everybody else. We shouted at the nasty one and Jay thought about going over to try and smooth things over but wisely she didn't. The last time she attempted to intervene in bird business she got chased and very nearly had her eyes pecked out! We left the seagulls to it and got back in the camper. We hadn't properly decided where we were going to stop tonight and thought we'd check out a few places further along the coast. The next place along was Tauranga Bay which was another stunning place. We had parked up by the beach and were checking the camp site out when a dog came bounding over to us. The dog was a Labrador called Duke and we got talking to his owner, Tom. He was a really friendly guy who lived nearby. He told us where we should visit along the coast but we'd already settled on staying here. The camp site was right on the beach again and it looked very quiet. Tom told us it was a good place and said that he knew the owners. We left Tom and Duke to go walkies and we checked in at the campsite. The lady on reception was very friendly and said she knew Tom and Duke very well when I mentioned them. We got an incredible spot with a stunning view and absolute beach frontage again. This place was totally gorgeous and the showers had private changing areas. The weather was nice and hot and with a clear blue sky we decided to get our comfy chairs out and chill out. Later on we had a walk along the beach, had showers without seeing anything to put us off our tea, had our tea and then watched the sun set over the ocean. We were lulled to sleep by the soothing sound of the waves lapping the shore.
