Monday dawned stunningly clear and we decided to test the sewing machine to its limits and visit our dear friends in Enniscorthy - and all the dogs/cats/goats/chooks etc. There is something all owners of electric vehicles are familiar with - Range Anxiety... how far can I actually get on one full tank (or battery of electricity). And, where can I plug in the beast to get more distance en route. Even that is fraught with anxiety as a slow charger (found in many towns around Ireland) can take 6+ hours to come anywhere near to say 80%. But a fast charger (found at very few gas stations, some car dealerships and mainly in big towns) can get you to 85% charged with 20 minutes. Well thankfully there was one of those fast chargers 'sort of' half way to Enniscorthy. We arrived to the great interest of our friends (well they were greatly interested in the sewing machine... though probably a little surprised that we'd actually turned up for lunch at all). It was great to see them and the first time we've splurged on lunch at the 'go to' coffee shop in Enniscorthy - Toffee & Thyme. All that Range Anxiety had given us major appetites and we left 'Leaf the Sewing Machine' on charge over lunch and whilst we nipped into St Vincent's for some paperbacks to read in the bath (truly no point wasting more than €1 for 3 books if they're going to drown eventually). We headed on out to the property and were greeted in raptures by all the dogs - though must admit that Ruby, the big Ridgeback, did look a bit peeved that mum hadn't mentioned they were off on holidays. She was so chuffed when mum actually turned up and we had homemade apple pie and coffee to send us on our way. We don't often get to know animals for years and years but Peanut the Jack Russell (who was only 6 weeks when we first cared for her) is definitely my timeshare puppy. She's coming up to 3 years old at Christmas... and Star - who loves James more than anything in her whole wide doggy world - was beside herself. Great visit all round and we tootled home, topped up the sewing machine at the fast-charge in Knocktopher and eventually crawled into the driveway at 7 pm. Big. Big day. Our current dogs were delighted when dinner was served (and the sewing machine was ecstatic to be put on charge after our amazing day out and about).
