Days 681-686, 14-19 Apr '16, Irish 'Homecoming' Dublin down to Enniscorthy, Caim (home) then Cahore (for the beach), We flew from Amsterdam on Thursday which was an experience in itself. Let's just say after the package scare at Amsterdam airport the other night and the recent incident in Brussells, security was very thorough indeed. With the 'automated' check-in and 'automated' bag drop (aka... chaos) and then super-security, it took us an hour and a half to get from the door of the airport to the gate and sit down. Luckily we are big fans of having a lot of extra time at airports - so had an hour or so to browse the shops and stretch our legs. The flight was running about 20 minutes behind but we zipped through Dublin airport incredibly fast, and made it to the coach park just 5 minutes after the 'wishful thinking' coach left. The temperature has certainly dropped since Amsterdam so we snugged into our coats and happily breathed the chill, fresh air until the 12.30 pm coach arrived (that was always the 99% likely coach). We made it to Enniscorthy right on time at 2.45 pm (to the minute!) and it was like coming home. As soon as we saw the castle with it's flags waving in a stiff breeze, we were there and felt like locals. Well, it is our 3rd visit - so our local friends are our Irish family now. We're in a tiny hamlet called Caim - about 5 mins from Enniscorthy's Aldi/Lidl combo which is fabulous and another 5 minutes into Enniscorthy itself. We have returned to our menagerie who were crazy, jumpy, happy to see us - 7 dogs, 8 cats, 30-40 chooks and lots of chicks, 3 pygmy goats. Two of which are preggers. No idea when they are due so we're doing headcounts every morning to make sure the goat total hasn't gone up in the night. Lovely weather here - cold, cold nights but not freezing and so far sunny and pleasant days. On Friday, before our friends headed to Dublin, we went for an exploratory trip to the beach at Cahore where they have a holiday home. It's apparently 36 km of uninterrupted beach (which I've christened Hypothermia Beach - was a bit brisk that day). We took 3 of the smaller dogs down and they enjoyed a good run on the beach. Been having a bit of a rest after the busy rush of Amsterdam - it usually takes us an hour or so to get the jobs done in the morning, but the weather is good so we don't have to bother with fires. Though we must admit to a wood burner fire, a massive telly and Netflix in the evenings - it's all good. We're up to Tuesday already and are 100% settled back in to our Irish home. We packed all 7 dogs, a quiche and our jackets into the car today and took off to the holiday home for the afternoon. We have, as usual, brought wonderful weather with us and darn near got sunburned at the beach - piercing blue, cloudless sky and beaming sunshine. It was like driving down in a dirty phone call on the way there - all the dogs panting and huffing and puffing and generally carrying on in hysterical excitement. Fortunately a solid beach walk/swim/run/play took all the energy out of them and they slept on the way home. Suspect we'll all sleep well tonight. Mañana? Zucchini bake (with eggs)... The chooks are spinning off a dozen eggs a day minimum and we'll be phoning around to give them away soon.
