Back to Bolivar!! Today is day 4 of my Canaima tour and we are back off to Ciudad Bolivar on a morning flight. I had nothing to do in the morning except wait for breakfast (which never came) and wait for the group of Japanese to get back from their overnight boat trip. At 9:30am the group had still not arrived so I made my way to the airport and waited there. The planes had already all arrived and it seemed like we were just waiting on my group so that we could take our plane. The rest of my group showed up around 10:30am and after doing check-in we were all ushered across to our small Sesna plane, loaded our bags and were off. The flight was far more pleasant this time around and certainly not eating a huge breakfast and four cups of coffee helped. We arrived back and immediately headed to see my friend Walter in the hope of finding a flight out of Venezuela. After stuffing around for 30 minutes he managed to find just one flight to Trinidad and Tobago that I would maybe be able to but in another city. Giving up on the idea of flying out of the country I talked with my Japanese friends and figured a bus across the boarder into Colombia would be our best bet - involving a 24 hour bus from Ciudad Bolivar to San Cristobal and then a share taxi across the boarder to Cucuta Colombia and finally a bus to Bogota. After trying to sort all that out I headed down to my favorite roast chicken resteraunt for my quarter chicken and salad for $1.20. The rest of the afternoon I spent planning, hanging out with others and relaxing. In the evening I chatted with an interesting English girl who was just starting her travels in South America and enjoyed the rest of my roast chicken. Fingers crossed we will be off on the bus to San Cristobal tommorow evening.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Much smoother flight back to Ciudad Bolivar
- Absolutely no flights out of Venezuela do foreigners
