Op 13 juni komen we aan Hue. De stad waar de keizers woonden, en waar het schijnbaar veel regent (rare plek om je paleis neer te zetten zou ik zeggen...). We hebben besloten hier 2 nachten te blijven. Na 4 dagen motor rijden zijn we toe aan een dag rust.

Als we inchecken in het hotel, blijkt dat er een festival gaande is in Hue, altijd leuk! Er is die avond een kleine show met veel zangers, muziek en bootjes. Het podium dobbert op het water, omgeven door veel lotussen. Alles is in het Vietnamees, en we verstaan er dus niets van, maar het ziet er allemaal erg leuk uit, we vermaken ons prima. De show is schijnbaar niet voor iedereen, maar de locals hebben daar wat op gevonden: als je een bootje hebt kun je de show vanaf de rivier zien. We moeten ook erg lachen als we zien dat wat verderop de rivier zich een groeiend aantal bootjes met veel mensen heeft verzameld die de show willen zien. De politie heeft het ook door, en grijpt in, een aantal bootjes worden weggestuurd. Het lijkt wel een open lucht concert in Nederland, waar mensen een plekje hebben gevonden om gratis van het concert te kunnen genieten, en vervolgens worden weggestuurd.

De Zondag brengt Jos door met rusten, het is tenslotte onze rustdag, ik ga naar de keizerlijke stad. Ik heb gehoord dat het gebaseerd is op de verboden stad van Beijing, ik hoop het niet hetzelfde is. Als ik naar binnen loop blijkt al snel dat het niet hetzelfde is. Al is het maar omdat een aantal gebouwen verwoest is, en niet alles er piekfijn uit ziet, Daardoor is er veel ruimte, de stad doet bijna park-achtig aan. Er zijn niet veel mensen, vaak heb je het idee dat je de enige bezoeker bent. Je kunt dus rustig rondkijken. Een ander verschil met de verboden stad is dat je hier door de zalen mag lopen, dat mocht in Beijing niet, dus stond iedereen te dringen voor de deuren om een glimps op te kunnen vangen.

On June 13th we arrive in Hue, the city were emporers lived and were it rains a lot (strange place to put your palace I would say...). We decided to spend 2 nights here, after 4 days on the motorbike, we need some rest.

When we check in, we are told that there is a festival going on. That evening there is a show with many singers, music and boats. The stage is floating on water, surrounded by lotusses. They only speak and sing in Vietnamese, so we cannot really understand what is going on, but it all looks really nice and we are having a good time. Apperently the show is not open to everyone, but the locals found out that if you ha]ve a boat, you can see the show from the river. We can see that more and more boats gather on the river. All packed with people that want to see the show. The police sees it too, and decides to take action: more then half of the boats are send away. It looks like a open air concert in the Netherlands, were people found a place to enjoy the concert for free, and then are send away by the police.

Sunday is our restday. Jos spends most of the day resting. I visit the imperial city. I hear that it is based on the forbidden city in Beijing, I hope it is not an exact copy. When I walk in, I soon see that it is not the same at all. Some buildings were destroyed, and not everything is rebuild, which creates a lot of open spaces and gives you the idea you are walking in a park with a lot of buildings. There are not many visitors, sometimes I had the feeling I was the only visitor, so you can look around, take your time. In Beijing visitors were not allowed to enter all of the palaces, here you can walk through the palace halls, and many other buildings.
