Arrived in Bali and had this spurs of motivation to do some exercise and eat healthy for the next 3/4 weeks. Hopefully I keep it up. Didn't do much in Kuta again, I couldn't wait to get out of Kuta, so busy, reminds me Ibiza strip. Looking forward to going Canggu which is a much more quieter but nice to not be hassled. Also a girl I met in Melbourne lives near Canggu so be nice to see her again for a while. Wifi here is so much better, it's ridiculous, and yet Australia are way behind. Went to a place called Pretty Poison on Saturday night which is a skateboard bar. Watched amateurs practicing and there was a dj on, decent crowd though, all young travellers! I paid to have my second surf lesson which was two hours long. The most stupid thing I did was I did a workout in the morning which consisted of press ups and burpees. Not a clever idea when I have to do two hours surfing. My arms, shoulders and neck were killing. Trying to swim into these huge waves with a floating device is not ideal. I managed to get up on the board a few times but definitely need more practice.
Flagged down a metered taxi from Canggu to Ubud and the cheeky little s*** took the long way round so that we ended up paying more...not on my watch. Good job I had my maps App open and he took a complete detour and completely the wrong way. I tried to tell him but pretended he didn't know much English. But when we arrived in Ubud, I told him your only getting 200,000 Rupiah, not 300,000! His face look speechless but we walked off and he finally drove off, he knew he was in the wrong! We went to the Monkey forest again with Danny, only stayed for a short while. Danny just wanted a cool picture with the monkeys.
Did a trek up Mount Batur for sunrise. We had to leave the hostel at 2am to get there for around 3am to start a 2 hour trek. Your supposed to get the tour package with a tour guide which usually costs between 250,000 - 350,000 including transport. However, we wanted to do it ourselves for free. Even though all the reviews online said you must get a tour guide and if you refuse they become very aggressive and threaten you. Which is exactly what happen to us but we did not give in. And so we pretended to drive home and drove up this dirt track and parked our bikes. And started walking through this forest and joined the Mount Batur trail and just tagged along with the other groups who paid for a tour guide...muhahahaha. I did feel nervous walking back down, as I thought they might have figured out where we have parked and taken our bikes away but they were still there, thank god! Trekking a mountain like the one we did, is so rewarding. As the whole time I'm thinking how tired I am or how tired my legs are, but once you get to the top and see that view when the sun comes up, all worth while. Even more rewarding when it was free! Whilst we still had the bikes we took a scenic route to view the famous Ubud rice terraces.
I met a dutch girl in my hostel who invited me to go Amed with her and another 4 dutch girls...I wasn't going to decline!! I always wanted to go Amed because it has really good diving and snorkeling. I did a dive at the Liberty Wreck dive site, where I saw the biggest fish I've seen so far. Such a fun dive and it was only myself and the dive master. I seen such a huge variety of marine life and it was more impressive that all the coral was on this huge sunken ship. The Japanese bombed this ship back in WWII and the top of the ship is only 5 metres underwater, so you could see it through snorkelling. Meanwhile, Kyle and Danny have gone to Gili T as I didn't want to go...been there, done that! Gili T is nice but not that impressive to go back again. So I was more than happy to opt to stay in Bali and relax in a nice hostel. I know a few people here anyways so I will just spend time with them or on my own. I've got a really good book to read and practice my surfing, and so I'm sure I shall keep myself busy.
Driving back during through this Hindu ceremony and some local guy jumped on the back and said go go, thats all he could say in English lol I was shouting out to everyone acting as if he's really cool on some westerners bike. I had to drive through hundreds of Hindus who were all smiling and shouting stuff at me, I just smiled and nodded!
