Jono's Travels
Caught up with Callum today. Met him at a place called "The Monument", from there we walked down the road to a building nicknamed the "Walkie Scorchie Building" and went to the Sky Gardens. The building use to be known as the "Walkie Talkie Building" however due to the design of the building if reflected a lot of sun into a particular spot and caused a guys car to catch on fire... Whoops, hence the name change. We walked down to the London Bridge and then down Borough Market in Southbank where people were selling different kinds of foods. I had already had a big breakfast this morning at the hotel so didn't bother getting anything filling, just a cookie which I wish I hadn't bothered getting as it wasn't that great. We continued down to the the London Eye but as I had already been up and seen a view from a higher point already today there was no point going on the Eye. The next stop was across the bridge to see the Parliament building and Big Ben, surprisingly Big Ben isn't as big as I thought he would be. Obviously I got some photos at this point before heading off to Westminster Abbey while Callum waited outside in the sun as he had already been there. I was actually rather impressed with Westminster Abbey, while it cost about £20 to get in it was well worth it. The entry fee includes a free audio guide and a map to follow as you go though, unfortunately no photos were allowed to be taken in there so I wasn't able to get any photos in there to show how nice it was. There is so much history in that place, and it makes me realise just how young New Zealand as a country is. After a good look around I left and met Callum outside. We proceeded on to Downing Street where the Prime Minister lives, or is it lived now that he has resigned. Either way, we went to the gate that leads to where the Prime Minister lives when there is one. It was surrounded by armed guards, and it's such a strange feeling to see these guards just carrying around automatic weapons. By this stage it was somewhere around 2pm so we were pretty hungry, we headed down the road for a quick feed before continuing on with our sight seeing. We continued on to Trafalgar Square where I saw some giant Lions in the square, it reminded me of Ryan who always got photos on Lions, so I decided to go and do one in his honour. There was also a nearby fountain with some ducks there so LOL Duck decided to take a swim with them. St James Park was next on our way to Buckingham Palace and we headed down there and I saw my first ever Squirrel, it was rather cute and it ended up coming up to about a meter away from me, so I was able to get some close up pictures. I proceeded on from there to Buckingham Palace with Callum and found a good spot to get a handstand photo. We walked around and got pictures of the guards before heading on again the St Pauls Cathedral as we had some time free. St Pauls Cathedral was in the same boat with photos, No Photos Allowed, it was a little disappointing that they choose to do this as it means we can't share the beauty of these places with others, but I guess they are either trying to avoid crowds building up or they don't want flashes going off all the time, that or selfie sticks. It was almost 6pm so we headed down to Janet's work where we would meet her and then head out to dinner. We went to a nearby Pizza restaurant where we ordered our meals, they were reasonably priced and tasted pretty good, but unfortunately their service wasn't that great, they were busy and took ages to bring the bill, on top of that they brought us an incorrect pizza. After dinner it was time for us to pet ways for the day and I headed to the hotel for an rakish evening.
