Jono's Travels
I met Callum this morning at about 10:15am and we made our way to Cambridge. It's good that Callum suggested it as it means that I'm not just visiting London while in England. The train ride was rather quick, about 45 minutes with no stops along the way. We arrived and headed down the street toward all the colleges.
All the colleges are actually closed today, instead they are having an open day at all the colleges, so Cambridge is full of potential students and their parents roaming the streets and colleges. We managed to sneak into Christ's Collage and take a quick look around, apparently the only people allowed to look around are the people who have been invited onto the campus. We headed into the square and took a look around the market that was setup, at this stage it was time for lunch so Callum and I both got a gourmet burger from one of the stalls, best market burger I've probably ever had.
We finished our burgers and walked around and came across offering punting rides, he said they were normally £20 for adults and asked if we were students followed by "Say yes, it's cheaper", students are £15 normally, but he offered me and Callum £10 rides each because the colleges were closed today. I'm not sure if that's because they have more people going on it or not but I didn't really care because it was a good price. The weather was great, sun was out and it was nice and warm so it was perfect for a relaxing punting trip. The punting took us down he river to the Mathematical bridge, the only wooden bridge on the river and is designed so it can support its own weight without any need for the rivets that are currently in it, from there we headed back up the river about twice the distance as we had already travelled before turning back and heading back to our start point.
We made our way over a bridge and took a walk though some of the parks, it was nice seeing so much greenery. We walked to a spot with some shade and took a moment to relax while sitting there we saw some old guy cruising around on a hover board. He looked like he was struggling a little, but he still did it better than I probably would have. We got up and continued on our walk to the train station.
We caught a different train back seeing it was the next scheduled train to leave, however it was a slower trip back as we seemed to stop at every station on the way back. It was then off to a pub where I had arranged to meet the people I knew in the area, turns out Callum was the only one who turned up, others were out of town for work, or just way to busy that day... I know how that is, as I've been in the same boat.
Callum and I headed off to a Thai restaurant for a meal, in true tradition of me, I ordered the Phad Thai Chicken which unfortunately lacked flavour, it was fine texture wise, had all that it said it would, but just didn't have enough flavour in it, other than that it was a good feed.
We parted ways from there and I made my way back to the hotel so I could pack my bags and get an early night. Upon arriving at the hotel I double checked what time check out was for tomorrow, 12pm... YAY, a sleep in. I then headed up to my room and started packing the bags. As I'm a bit worried about the weight being over, I've managed to pack 3 pairs of shoes, a pair of jandals and all my carry on luggage into my carry on bag, I'll check my check in luggage tomorrow to see how heavy it is and if it's well under I'll put the shoes back.
