Hello, if Carlsberg did Islands... they probably would be nothing like Koh Samet.
Arrived here from lovely Koh Chang that know we wished we had never left! Arrived here after a rubbish day of travelling the short journey which should take around 4/5hours, turned into 8 with all the stops the bus drivers took, t*** !
Arrived on the island late on in the day and we knew after we checked the first hotel that we weren't going to love this island. Room was a s***-hole to be frank and they were chargeing well over what it should be. We must have checked nearly every hotel with all them being the same s***ey standard for ridiculous prices. All hotel owners here have a steady stream of people on island all year round with it being so close to Bangkok so none were moving on their prices. We eventually found an ok room for still a high price but suppose it would have to do.
Went out for tea that night on the beach and ordered BBQ chicken and pork which again was over-priced. Well the BBQ meat was 3 little cubes with a burnt baked tattie and some cucumber. Had been a very crappy day with prolonged travelling, unsuccessful hotel hunting and now pish service and food so decided to hit the sack. We hit our bedbug filled sack that is. On return to hotel both were itchy when got into bed, checked the sheets more closely and were quite alot of bed bugs! Both slept in our sleeping bags and were going to have one last look for another hotel in morning and if couldn't find one then head back to the mainland.
We checked out the hotel the following morning and did eventually find a nice CLEAN hotel room which was still more than should be paying but at least its clean and has all we need. We stayed 3nights and pretty much have absolutley nothing to report home on.
3days sepnt again just chilling in the room or at the beach topping up on our tan. One plus point is that we had a good internet connection for a good majority of our stay so managed to download a fair few of the newly released films. The new Transformers and Cars 2 being the most worthy of a mention, Bridesmaids definately not as was an absolute pile of crud.
We are leaving here in the morning (Thank F*ck) heading for Jomtien where we think we will spend a couple of nights and then on to Pattaya which again will just be a few nights to shove in time before we have to be back in Bangkok. Koh Samet is definatley not worth a stop, more for workers in Bangkok to escape for the weekend and get a bit of sand so bit of a mistake coming here bit live and learn i suppose...
See Ye Later Koh s***... i mean Samet
