Hello from Koh Phi Phi,
The first thing we noticed about Koh Phi Phi was the scenery, amazing!! We didn't book any accommodation as we thought we would get a better deal once we arrived. Luckily it was around 9am so it wasn't too hot yet so we went on the hunt for some nice cheap accommodation.....4 hours later we eventually settled for a nice hotel, slightly more than our budget but we had a TV, hot water, AC and a pool so we didn't mind.
Since we were only here for 3 nights we decided to book a tour for the following morning and then chilled out at the pool for a while until it then hit 4pm and....rain again. So it was off to our hotel room for some more Thai TV haha.
That night Shay had a migraine so we didn't do very much, we got some food and had a quick walk around to get our bearings. All the stalls here had some pretty cool clothes but seemed to be slightly more expensive than other places in Thailand. We had a nice meal and went back to the hotel to get a good nights sleep for our early start the following morning.
We woke up for it to be drizzling rain outside, since it was 7am we hoped it would stop and clear up later in the day. Our long tail boat arrived at 8am and we started our tour of the islands. We had another couple with us, the girl was from England and the guy was from Sri Lanka. Our first stop was to snorkel with some black tip reef sharks. As you may already know Shay is not the greatest in open water and panics slightly when there are fish around her haha, but she managed pretty well with gripping onto Jonny as hard as she could. The sharks were amazing, the biggest one we seen was about a 1.5m long, a lot bigger than we thought we would have seen, it was so good though, Jonny was in his element and even Shay enjoyed it.
After that we were taken to some nearby cliffs that you could jump off into the sea. Jonny and Hessan (the guy from Sri Lanka) were very keen and Shay decided she was going to give it a go as well. Our guide took us up to the cliff and then told us we were told it was 14 meters high and we now had to jump.....looking over the edge we seemed to be VERY high. Hessen went first, then Jonny and about 10 minutes later Shay finally jumped haha. It was really good but one jump was enough for us both.
Our next stop was Maya Bay (where the film "the beach" was filmed). This would have been even more beautiful if it wasn't still raining and the amount of tourists was unreal, the beach was just packed. But the scenery here was breathtaking but would have been better if there wasn't so many people.
Just a few minutes boat ride from Maya Bay was a spot where there were heaps of turtles and we could snorkel with them. It was so good to just be swimming along side the turtles until we all started to feel stings...we looked around to find heaps of jellyfish and we had all been stung a few times, so quickly we all went back to the boat. Was really good until the jellyfish.
It was now almost the end of the tour and on the way back we were taken to Monkey Island, a little beach front that has loads of monkeys jumping from tree to tree. There were again a lot of tourists on the beach with the monkeys throwing food at them and teasing them. Wasn't very great to see, the monkeys were getting aggressive and the tourists thought it was hilarious. We both decided to stay on the boat after the monkey incident in India we have now had enough of them lol.
Unfortunately it was still raining by the time we got back so we just got a shower and watched some more Thai TV before heading out for tea at night. We arranged to meet the couple we spent the day with at night to watch the England game and have a few drinks. We found a nice sports bar that was showing the game, we were both silently cheering for Wales but unfortunately they didn't do to great. We ended up having a really good night, buckets were involved again this time rum ones, they were good.
The following day Jonny was very hungover and for some reason Shay was fine and it was a beautiful day so Shay had a day of tanning while Jonny had a day of sleeping. It must have been very hot that day as at night time Shay had burnt her chin and cheeks, very sore. Nothing much happened at night we went out for tea and watched the Scotland game and went back to the hotel.
The next day we got the ferry to Krabi where we were staying one night to check out the town. It was really bad thunderstorms, the wind and rain was crazy. But the ferry was still running. It was the worst journey of our lives, the ferry felt like it was going to tip every wave it went over, at one point heaps of water came running in from a window soaking all the bags at the front. We were glad to get off at Krabi.
Now to see what Krabi has in store for us :)
