In order to get to ko samui from Battambang we had to go via Bangkok... for a third time! We decided that rather than get an overnight train directly after our 7 hour journey we would spend the night and following day in Bangkok and do nothing! We managed to get a reasonably priced hotel (which the cab driver couldnt find) with a small gym and pool so after an early night we spent the next day relaxing by the pool. we did have to go to the train station in the morning though to buy our tickets. We got chatting to a lady in a coffee shop and she very kindly gave us a lift to the station which saved us a few quid. On the way back we took a tuk tuk who only charge you 40p if you go to a tailors and pretend you are interested (they subsidise the tuk tuks fuel) we were in no rush so we agreed! We left our hotel that evening at 5:30 and didn't arrive at our hotel until 3pm the following day thanks to the poor organisation of the tour companies. We sat in a cafe/tour operator in miserable Surat Thani for several hours before 2 separate buses took us probably a mere 20 miles to the ferry. To save on cost a minivan was to drop us off at our hotel. as we were near the ferry we were suppoed to be dropped off first. Unfortunately the driver wasn't paying attention, drove past our hotel and we had an hour or so to go all the way around the island whilst the rest of the passengers got dropped off. We were quite frustrated as we had effectively lost a day because the waiting around earlier that morning and also this driver not paying attention.
