Our walking tour began at the New College of Oxford, one of the 38 colleges that make up the university. Each college has its own dining hall, church, dormitories and library which creates the academic community for the students at that college. It was amazing. It felt like you entered a Harry Potter movie set which makes sense since the movies were filmed for the most part at this college.
It was"Open Day" which is when the colleges are open to prospective students, so it was extremely busy and crowded. The rest of the tour was equally as amazing.
We stopped at the Central Oxford Library which is no LOC but was very interesting. Jane Austen is being featured all over England as it is 200 years since her death. The exhibit here was excellent. It made me want to read her novels.
After lunch at a pub, we went to the Museum of the History of Science which was fascinating.
Our final dinner in Oxford was at the alternative pub with the local favorite - fish and chips washed down with ale.

Laura Trip sounds amazing. Maybe Marvin can become a tour guide at Central Oxford Library and you can extend your stay.
Lois Goodstein Did you know that the Jane Austen Society of North America has a Facebook page? And that the Maryland chapter is meeting in Columbia on July 29? You can continue the celebration at Union Jack’s at noon for “From Page to Plate: Food in Jane Austen’s Time," where a food historian will discuss what it was like to plan, prepare, and eat food like that eaten by the poorest to the richest characters in Austen's novels. Brill!
