We spent yesterday steam boating along the Mississippi from Memphis. It was a lovely slow day, good for us to rest after a long day of flying last Thursday. We were able to get acquainted with the boat, catch up on washing and chat to various people we had met. We have allocated seating for dinner but can have breakfast in our room, in the dining room or at an outdoor cafe. There is entertainment each evening and so far we have listened to one Elvis impersonator, a gospel quartet, and we have another Elvis impersonator tonight. They have all been very good!
Today we docked in Vicksburg where one of the Civil Rights battles occurred and visited churches and museums in the town as well as Anchuca Mansion, an old stately home from the 1850's. One of the museums in town features the history of Coca Cola from the 1890's. Apart from the ship being in town the place is pretty quiet. There are high levee walls near the boat showing flood levels from various years but there is no evidence of a shopping centre anywhere. We set off again at 7pm heading further downstream. The weather has been warm with a bit of humidity but there are also large clouds in the sky and the occasional heavy shower of rain.

Jan Maxwell Hi Jill and Peter. It is great that we can see where you are and what you are doing. It sounds really nice and relaxing on the ship, with food, drink and entertainment at your doorstep. Look forward to hearing more about your travels. Love Jan xx
