Okay so yesterday we had a bit of a lie in again due to our lateish night watching the FA cup as we finallt at half time found the channel it was playing on in our hostel, so watched the second half and extra time. When we did get up we got on the metro to Ueno where we went down ameyoko st which is a mad market with people shouting to come to their stall and music blaring and hundreds of people pushing and shoving it was an experience with so much atmosphere that ithought tokyo would be like in general. We then walked through Ueno park as we were going to go the National museum but as it was quite pricey we decided against it so got an ice cream and walked around the park which although was still busy as it was a lovely hot day, it was a complete difference from the market as the park was really chilled out and relaxed.
We then came back to Asakusa which was heaving with people as it was the last day of the big festival so everyone it seemed had come to this part of tokyo to watch the shrines be carried about by people in v short kimono type things??half the time the guys were showing their bums off!?, typical japenese music was being played live in the streets so the atmosphere was great! So we walked about a bit and then nipped in a supermarket to pick up a pot noodle type thing (more like a big noodle broth bowl) for dinner. We came back to the hostel i watched TV as vic was on the internet then we went down to the bar for a few drinks
Today we got up and went out to Shibuya, which is a young modern neighourhood we had a walk around and some lunch then we went in a shop called Tokyo Hands which was like a 7 storey shopping mall with different things on each floor, but a lot of it was homewares so actually wasnt as good as i thought and had heard it was going to be. We then walked from Shibuya to Harajuku where we went and sat in a coffee shop and watched the world go by which was v entertaining as there are definately some random sights!! All the young people there seem to be so dressed up whether its a gothically style or some girls tried to look like porcelain dolls which was a bit creepy but v entertaining to watch!
We then walked around harajuku and its shops which were all so colourful and vibrant just how i had pictured it really.
We then got the metro from harajuku to Shinjuku (the skyscraper district) where we went to the government met building where you can go up to the observation floor (floor 45) for free, and so we went up and had a look out and it was a good view but it was a pity we couldnt really see the mountains in the background as it got a bit cloudy near them.
We then got the metro back to Asakusa and wandered about a bit again - went in a 100Yen store (which is the equivelant to about 50p!!) but didnt buy anything. Vic then went back to the hostel as her back was hurting and i just continued to wander around for a while and tried out a sembei cracker - apparently a Asakusa speciality.
Anyway im back in the hostel now, think we're gonna go out for dinner tonight, so im gonna get off now.
