After spending the previous couple of days trawling through the internet trying to find ourselves jobs, we were glad of the break yesterday as we headed out to Fitzroy Island for the day with Lynsey and Marcus.
We met them at the ferry terminal just before nine o'clock in the morning and after persuading them that we knew where we were going, we were soon on the boat for the short forty-five minute journey across the water. Once we had arrived we headed straight around to Nudey beach on the eastern side of the island, to where we had seen many pictures of white sands and clear blue water - and no, it wasn't a nudist beach!
After a short walk through the forest with botanist Lynsey leading the way, we came out onto the beach and it was immediately clear why all the photographs we had seen of the beach appeared so bright, as the beach was covered in white coral instead of the sand we had imagined. We soon had ourselves set up and ready to catch some rays as the sun was beating down onto the exposed shore and the crystal clear water seemed icy cold in comparison and offered some much needed respite from the heat when we needed to cool down.
After we had sweated it out all we could and devoured our picnic lunch we headed back around to the jetty area to get out of the sun for a while, but this soon changed when we reached the trampoline in the sea and found nobody on there. It was just a short swim out to the trampoline and when we got out there it felt as weird as it sounds! We spent a couple of hours out there lounging around in the sun, jumping and diving off into the water and bouncing around on the trampoline.
The trampoline was chained to the beach so that we didn't float away and connected to the chain by an inflated tube a few metres long and our favoured game was to see how far along the tube we could run before falling off and crashing into the water. Let's just say that there were mixed results!!
When we finally retired from our play we headed to the resort to finally find some shade for a while and enjoy a cold drink. With not long to go before our ferry back to Cairns was due we took a walk up towards one of the lookout areas - only to find that the track was closed a couple of hundred metres along the path. We headed back to the jetty and watched the sun setting behind one of the neighbouring islands before getting the ferry back to town.
Yesterday evening we decided to frequent the Rhinobar to try out the many delicacies that were on offer to tempt our pallet and quench our thirst, before turning our attentions back to the joys of employment searching today.
