Well, today started of with Jen crapping her pants as today is the day we do our harbour bridge climb!
We started the day keeping our minds off the climb (as every time Jen thought about it resulted in a panic attack), by going to Bondi Junction to do our Christmas shop!
Bruce had a little hissy fit in the car park but he was soon up and running again and off we went to get our massive shop! turkey, sausage meat, spuds, veg, pudding, the works!!!
Once the Christmas groceries were out of the way the next stop was to get stockings and some other bits and pieces to make the apartment look more Christmassy. We already had our tree but it just wasn't quite there yet!
All that out of the way, the next most important stop of the day, the British Lolly Shop for some much needed proper chocolate and some Iron Bru for David! They didn't have what we went for (bread sauce) but we still managed to stock up on a few essentials!
As the dreaded time was fast approaching we made our way back to the apartment where Jen's mood swung slowly for being optimistic to being filled with dread! We awaited the arrival of Toyah and Stuart then off we went. We had our briefing and got ourselves kitted out. Jen even got to wear their "mummy thinks I'm special" shoes! They made us climb a really lame set of fake stairs to 'simulate' the climb before we made our way through a coffin shaped hole in the bridge! (very fitting!)
It wasn't long until we were making our way along the underside of the bridge hearing all sorts of information about the bridge itself and about Sydney. By the time we got to the ladders to climb up the side of the pylon we were both loving it!
It was truly the most surreal feeling ever. We made our way up a gentle slope to the top of the bridge, stopping only for a couple of photos. Before we knew it we were standing on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge! It was an absolutely amazing experience. Once at the top we then made our way across the bridge which was a bit hairy as we crossed over basically a grill and could see seven lanes of traffic below us!
It wasn't long before it was all coming to an end, it really didn't feel like three hours and it was definitely far too short! On our way back looking across Sydney was amazing.
The guide told us about some other bridge climbs they were opening across the world, London Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge being two of them so we'll be attempting the Brooklyn for sure if and when we make our way back to New York!
The evening was finished off with a kebab down the street before getting back to the apartment to tell Lorna and Alan (who had waited up to make sure we were still alive!) all about it.
