We arrived in Sydney yesterday afternoon after a long drive from Myall Lakes National Park, and it is just as amazing as we thought it would be!!
We arrived at Myall Lakes in the early evening after leaving Nambucca Heads behind us and cruising along the coast. Our first stop was Freddo's Pie Shop, where their Crocodile pies have become quite famous, but unfortunately they were all out of Croc so we had to settle for apricot chicken and Thai chicken instead. The rest of the journey was easy enough but fairly boring, as most of the drives are out here, as we made away along the coastal roads until we got to the turn off for our night's destination. We had to get a ferry across to the island (well, ferry is a bit much, but it did go across a bit of water), and when we got there we found that there were only two other caravans in the camping area. We found a nice little spot just by the lake and set up our tent, before going to explore the park.
The park was really small and we had the beach right behind us and the lake just in front of us, and we even saw some Dingo's roaming around in front of our tent. As there were no facilities in the park, we did our best to have a wash in the sea, but the waves were too big for us to go very far in, and we just ended up getting covered in sand! It was really quiet in the park and watching the sunset over the lake was pure tranquility - a sharp contrast to what we expect over the next month!!
We were up and away early this morning as we still had a fair journey to complete, and without the joys of modern technology such as running water by the time we got to Sydney we were roasting and probably not smelling the best. After getting ourselves checked into what will be home for the next four weeks, we had the joys of completely unpacking old Bruce and lugging everything up into the apartment. After an hour and a half of sweating and bashing our hands, arms and legs off of every wall, door and jagged edge conceivable, we were finally finished and enjoyed what was possibly the best shower anybody has ever had in the world ever!!!!
Shortly afterwards we got a phone call from Jenny and Wayne, our harvesting companions in Texas, who were in a pub off of George street, so we headed up to toast our arrival in arguably the most well known city in the world. Despite being vaguely put off by the fact that they were in a bar called "St. Patrick's" (travel half way around the world to go to an Irish pub? Could have hopped onto EasyJet for that!), we stopped in for a few drinks. After a while we headed out to go and see the Opera House and Harbour Bridge for the first time, which was an amazing experience, especially as it was night time and the whole place was lit up!!
We have spent today trying to get our bearings before the Holloway Olds arrive tomorrow at the unsightly hour of 6:00am!!!
