We checked into the resort caravan park early and after lunch went to Kings Canyon where we completed the Rim Walk of about 6km. This included some bridges and flights of stairs. The dome scenery was spectacular and we all thought this was one of the most spectacular places we have visited on the trip. I liked the Garden of Eden.

A windy start to the day as we packed up the van and headed to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) for a quick visit. The Valley of the Winds walk lived up to its name and we found the varied scenery more dramatic than Uluru. After lunch we drove to a bush campsite near Kings Creek which was one of our best free glamps yet!

We drive to Uluru and set off on the 10.6 km walk around the base of the rock. It was very interesting as the views changed on the way round and we had time to enjoy and appreciate how dramatic Uluru is in an otherwise flat landscape. The summit walk (not recommended by the traditional owners) was closed due to high winds and we hope that it soon becomes a permanent closure to respect their wishes and to save lives.

An early pack up in readiness for the pancake breakfast at the caravan park, which we enjoy with a family from Nundroo (SA). We head south from Alice Springs and then west to Yulara (Ayers Rock Resort). We have lunch at Mt Ebenezer roadhouse which was an interesting log cabin extended over the years to include the Bull Bar. On the way we pass Mt Conner which is known locally as Fooluru, as from a distance many travellers think it's something else when first sight...

We spend the morning on a tour of Alice Springs School of the Air. It was great to see how kids in remote communities and locations (as far away as New Guinea and the Tiwi Islands) do their school work and it was interesting to compare their program to the DECV one we are using. On the way back into town we went up Anzac Hill for a good view of town and some interesting details of Australia's involvement in more than a century of overseas conflicts.
