A 5 hour train journey took us down the east coast from Picton to Christchurch.
Despite the weather being rubbish the scenery was still stunning , with mountains on one side and the Pacific Ocean the other and hundred of seals along the rocks by the sea.
It was raining when we arrived in Christchurch and pretty much stayed that way until we left! We stayed for 2 nights at Foley Towers Backpackers and did the main sights: the cathedral, River Avon and the botanical gardens whcih we got a bit lost in but kirsty got us out of!!
Whether it was the weather or because their were prostitutes on the corner of our road at 6pm, or neither, we werent really impressed by Christchurh. It was a nice enough city but not much going on to be honest.
The highlight was probably meeting a Czech guy (can't remember his name now) in our hostel, and playing a travel trivia game where we found out he seemed to know more about Britain than we do! Bit embarassing but fun!
Off to Lake Tekapo next which is probably the complete opposite of Christchurh!!
